ASG Annual Camporee 2011

Arabiyya Scout Group's Scout Camps are considered among the very best camps held in recent years; in 2009, they held their first Camporee with Muhyiddin Scouts and H. Dh. Hanimaadhoo Scouts in Kaafu, Huraa youth Campsite, again in 2010, with Galholhu Madhurasa Scouts and H. Dh. Atoll Education Centre Scouts, held the camp in the same campsite.
This year, they organized the biggest camp ever in the history of Arabiyya Scout Group’s and also it was the biggest Camporee which was ever organized by a single Scout Group in the History of Maldivian Scouting, with 6 Scout groups, (i.e., Arabiyya Scout Group, Muhyiddin Scout Group, Ghiyasuddin Scout Group, Thaa Atoll School, Dhaalu Atoll Education Centre and Kaafu Guraidhoo Madhurasa); more than 380 participants including leaders and parents.
The Camporee was held from 19 to 23 March 2011, in Kaafu Guraidhoo and the nearby uninhabited island Lhosfushi.

Day 1 (19 March 2011)
Contingents started to arrive to the camp site early morning. The first Contingent arrived to the camp site was Thaa. Atoll School (First Thaa Scout Group)’s Contingent, the contingent included 24 Scouts, 2 Leaders and 4 Parents.
The Official Opening of the Camporee was held at 1700 hrs, chief guest of the ceremony was the Principal and the Group Scout Leader of Kaafu Guraidhoo Madhurasa, Mr. Adam Athif.
In the first night of the Camporee, a session about camping and scouting was taught by the Camp Coordinator Mr. Saif Azhar.
The day was concluded with the Patrol Leaders C.O.H and followed by the Contingent Leaders meeting.

 Day 2 (20 March 2011)
The second day of the Camporee began with the Fajur Prayer at 0445hr and the Physical Training. After the breakfast, inspection started. Assessors of the Camporee were team of leaders selected from all the contingents.
As per the schedule of the Camporee, activities started at 10am and 2 hours break were given at 1130am for the prayer and lunch and restarted again at 1330hrs. Activities stopped for the day at 1530hrs and games took place from 1600hrs to 1730hrs.

The first Friendship circle of the Camporee was held on the second night of the camp. All the contingents and leaders enjoyed the night singing songs and yells, playing dramas and skits.

The Second day was also concluded after the Patrol Leaders C.O.H and followed by the Contingent Leaders meeting.

Day 3 (21 March 2011)
The Third day also began with the prayer and followed the same schedule of the previous day till the prayer break and the lunch.

After the lunch all contingents built rafts to travel to Lhosfushi (nearby uninhabited island) which can carry 5 to 6 scouts at a time. Rafting began at 1600hrs and before 1730hrs, all the participants of the Camporee were transferred to Lhosfushi.
After the dinner, an original Campfire with fire held in Lhosfushi. After the campfire, again all the participants were transferred back to Guraidhoo.

As it was scheduled, the day also concluded with the Patrol Leaders C.O.H and the Contingent Leaders meeting.

Day 4 (22 March 2011)
World Water Day, the fourth day of the camp began with the prayer at 0430hrs.

After the mid-day break, Fire Fighter training programme with Maldives National Defense Force started. And after the lunch, a swimming programme was carried out. This programme was also conducted by the Instructors from MNDF.

Scouts from the Camporee were invited to join the World Water Day Workshop held in nearby Resort Island, Kandooma Maldives organized by the resort. 3 scouts from each contingent participated in this workshop. They left to the resort at 1400hrs and returned back in Guraidhoo at 1800hrs.
In the fourth day of the Camporee, Island cleaning programme was conducted. All the participants of the Camporee actively participated in this programme. After placing the collected garbage into the garbage ground, the programme ended at 1800hrs.
The busiest day of the Camporee, a cultural night was conducted and each contingent performed a cultural dance on stage.

The day was also accomplished with the Patrol Leaders C.O.H and the Contingent Leaders meeting.


Day 5 (23 March 2011)
The last day or the fifth day of the Camporee began as per the schedule and after the rally a youth forum was held till 1200hrs.
Closing ceremony of the Camporee was held in the school premises of the Kaafu Guraidhoo Madhurasaa at 1500hrs. Chief Guest of the ceremony was the principal and the Group Scout Leader of Kaafu Guraidhoo Madhurasaa, Mr. Adam Athif. Contingents started to leave the island at 1600hrs.
According to the Camp Coordinator and the Assistant Group Scout Leader of Arabiyya Scout Group, Mr. Saif Azhar, he is very happy with all his staffs and they made this Camporee a success with no delay in any scheduled programme.
Also, he thanked all the islanders of Kaafu Guraidhoo, especially School management for the excellent support to the Camporee.
